The Las Cruces Symphony Association and Orchestra work to extend the joy of music making to children, youth and their families throughout the greater Las Cruces community. During the 2009-2010 Season our outreach will serve more than 15,000 youth (K-12 and college age). Our vision is to build lasting partnerships between the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra (LCSO), New Mexico State University and regional school districts. |

They include a lively narration and the chance for students to interact with the musicians.

SWEET Sounds! Musicians In Residence is in its third year at two Las Cruces public middle schools and four elementary schools. Participating schools are matched with Las Cruces Symphony musicians who visit the school on a monthly basis. During the hour-long visits, musicians are able to share their passion for creating music, address music fundamentals that coincide with Music Educators’ goals, and build meaningful relationships with students. The SWEET Sounds! program focuses on developing the knowledge base, skills and sustained interest of 5th graders at the elementary level and young middle school string players.
* Concert Hall Programs bring students, teachers and families to New Mexico State University's Atkinson Recital Hall to hear the LCSO perform special concerts or to hear the orchestra and special guest artists at dress rehearsals.
-
Youth Concerts: Each spring, over 1,500 fourth graders from the Las Cruces Public School District are invited to hear the full Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra at the New Mexico State University Music Center Recital Hall. These free concerts introduce students to the families of instruments in the orchestra with an age-appropriate music repertoire.
Our next Youth Concerts will be performed on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at the NMSU Atkinson Recital Hall for over 1,500 Las Cruces 4th grade students.
-
The Family Concert is designed for children to experience orchestra instruments up close and hear orchestra music in a concert hall setting. The program begins with a pre-concert instrument “Petting Zoo” hosted by LCSO musicians in the lobby of the NMSU Music Center. Participants are then invited to take their seats in the Atkinson Recital Hall for a concert that features exciting, age-appropriate music performed by the full 80-piece orchestra. Families with children (ages 3 and up only) are offered tickets at the reduced rate of $5 each (all open seating).
